Day trips Orihuela Costa

Torrevieja

Torrevieja, the next bigger town with the harbour Marina Salinas, is only three km away from our bungalows. The promenade „Paseo Vista Alegre“ is located directly at the port of Torrevieja in front of the Real Club Nautico and the tourist information. Events, small markets or street festivals often take place here. It is definitely a nice place to linger and a great starting point for a walk along the harbour. Directly under the „Paseo Vista Alegre“ is a large underground car park, so you can park right by the harbour and in the city centre. From here you can easily explore the city.

Afterwards, you can take a sightseeing trip by train through the salt lakes of Torrevieja.

Around Torrevieja there are numerous salt lakes, which are known as the trademark of the region. You can also bathe in them undisturbed and thus partake of their healing properties. Salt water is known to have a positive effect on various diseases such as rheumatism, skin diseases and respiratory problems. The high mineral density in the water also has an extremely refreshing and beneficial effect on body and mind. Whether for hiking or swimming, the salt lakes around Torrevieja are absolutely worth a visit!

Tabarca Island

The island of Tabarca is not only one of the most beautiful natural attractions in the area, but also the only inhabited island in the Valencia region. It is divided into two zones. In the northern zone there is a natural park with a dreamlike setting, a lighthouse, a bunker and a cemetery; in the southern zone there are small restaurants and handicraft shops. Both zones are separated by the only beach and the harbour area.

The island is best reached by ferry (catamaran) from Santa Pola. It takes about 25 minutes. The round trip costs 15 euros for adults and 10 euros for children. There are also good ferry connections from Torrevieja and Alicante. It is therefore a nice excursion destination for the whole family.

Day trips Costa Blanca

Alicante

Enjoy your day trip to Alicante. Alicante is certainly worth a trip, as you can not only marvel at the many ships here, but also enjoy the beautiful view of Santa Barbara Castle. The top of Santa Barbara Castle is one of the most popular places in the city. From here you have the most beautiful panoramic view of the city and the harbour.

The marina is located in the oldest part of the city, so you can discover many other historically important buildings besides the castle. Also very impressive is the Esplanada de Espana. Here you can stroll and admire the beautiful 6.5 million mosaic tiles on the floor. The jewel of the city of Alicante is the Basilica of Santa Maria. It was built on the site of the city’s old Great Mosque, making it an incredible historical landmark and one of the main attractions in Alicante.

There are also many restaurants, bars and cafés here where you can sample typical Spanish cuisine. Stroll through the narrow streets and enjoy the historical flair of the city.

Elche

Elche is one of the oldest towns in the region and is also a paradise for those who like history, palm trees and sun.

The palm grove has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006. Elche is therefore also called the capital of palm trees and city parks. The Jardín Huerta del Cura is particularly recommended. It is one of the smaller, but also definitely the most varied and beautifully designed palm park of all. However, admission is not free.

Another highlight is definitely a visit to the baroque church of Santa Maria. From the top, you can enjoy the fantastic view over the city of Elche and the many palm parks and gardens. Also very impressive is the Palacio de Altamira, which is only a good 100 metres away from the Basilica Santa Maria church. In the centre of Elche there are several pedestrian zones with many boutiques and smaller shops that invite you to stroll around. You can relax and enjoy national delicacies in countless bars and restaurants at the end of the day.

Day trips to region Murcia

Cartagena

Cartagena is the second largest city in the province of Murcia and is located directly on the Costa Cálida on the Mediterranean Sea. The beautiful old town and harbour are well worth a day trip. Stroll through the narrow streets of the old town and let yourself be inspired by the oldest coastal city in Spain with its unique culture, history and sights.

Some of the most important sights you should not miss are the Casino, Gaudi’s Casa Calvet, the Gran Hotel and, of course, the imposing Town Hall with its white marble façade. The town hall square is one of the most popular places in Cartagena, especially with the locals. From here you can easily reach the Roman Theatre and the castle, as well as the modern harbour.

The Roman amphitheatre from the 1st century, the historical landmark of the city, is also very impressive. Just nearby is another of the city’s sights, Castillo de la Conception. The castle is located on one of the five hills that protect the city. From the viewing platform you have the best view of the city and the harbour. However, you can also visit the castle from the inside.

A leisurely stroll along the Calle Mayor is also recommended. Cartagena’s shopping street is lined with magnificent Art Nouveau houses and, of course, numerous shops and boutiques with everything your heart desires.

Cartagena’s harbour is one of the most popular places to stroll and relax, both for locals and for travellers visiting the city.

Try the delicacies of Spanish cuisine in the countless bars, cafés and restaurants.

Murcia

Murcia is a city of Moorish origin and is located next to the river Segura. The tower of the cathedral can be seen from far away. It is one of the city’s landmarks. Murcia is worth a city break all year round, because Spain’s mild Mediterranean temperatures last all year round.

To visit the many sights in Murcia, it is best to start with a tour of the large cathedral in the centre. Santa Maria Cathedral dates from the end of the 14th century. The Baroque style can be found in several ecclesiastical buildings in Murcia, such as the church of La Merced, the convent church of Santa Ana and the churches of Santo Domingo, San Nicolás and San Miguel. On the large square in front of the Santa Maria Cathedral there are other interesting buildings such as the Palacio Episcopa or the College of Theatre and Dance. The tourist information office of Murcia is also located here.

The central street in the old part of Murcia is the pedestrian zone Via Traperia, which starts directly behind the cathedral and is also impossible to miss.
